THE SPELL OF RED RIVER is an intergenerational-witch-story about family, grief, and finding your magic. Stylistically, it’s Fried Green Tomatoes meets The Divine Secrets of the Ya-ya Sisterhood meets Practical Magic. It has a contemporary musical theatre/pop- country score with artistic influences such as Taylor Swift, The Chicks, and Tammy Wynett. When Vel inherits a mysterious school building in the wake of her mother’s death, she goes to her mother’s hometown of Canonsboro, TN searching for the answers to questions about her family history that her mother took to the grave. Vel is a witch who has an unique aptitude for psychometry - she can conjure the histories and memories of an object by touching it. As she digs into her family’s secrets she uncovers a magical legacy and a powerful spell that can either raise dead or disappear the caster. When the time comes to fulfill her destiny, Vel takes on her dark inheritance and risks her own disappearance to do the Spell and break her family’s generational curse.
