Mumu The Musical

Smart guy. Foolish man. Mumu the Musical is a knife-to-throat satire set in the twilight of a pre-colonial Nigerian empire. Once a feared general who brought the Empire to glory, the round-bellied and raucous Mumu is now a Falstaffian joy on the verge of being forgotten in an age of peace. In a last attempt to secure his legacy, he conspires with Aole, the forty-year heir who has finally grown impatient with waiting, to fulfil their mutually assured delusion - murdering the king. What starts as a hunger to become myth tears the Empire’s stories apart and embalms Mumu in its language forever. Today, ‘Mumu’ in Yoruba translates to ‘fool’.
